| Title: BLU Network Purpose of the Design: The BLU (Borrow-Lend-Unite) network is a blueprint for using digital technology to generate community relationships. The concept presumes that most people are happy to lend belongings such as tableware, hand tools, and auto equipment to their neighbors. To participate, users plug a BLU module into a phone line that connects to all other BLU machines in the area, building a database of objects neighbors are willing to lend. Employing a digital interface, prospective borrowers indicate which part of the house the object they want is used in; then they select a category, then an item. Then BLU lists all the neighbors willing to lend that item. Awards: ID Magazine Honorable Mention
